How gaming can improve your response time in real life.

Gaming or Video games have become an essential part of many people's lives, the availability of cheap internet and value of money phones has pushed the gaming scene to an all time high with the pandemic only adding to its existing popularity. Gaming has always been a controversial topic or matter of debate in households where most of the parents are always complaining of their kids playing video games all day. While it's true that too much of something is always bad, people tend to forget or not realize the advantages of gaming. Gaming has its advantages as well which leads to the healthy development of the player playing the game.

A research shows that action video game players develop a high sensitivity of surroundings and this development doesn't just benefit them in playing their favorite video game but in turn also improve a wide variety of that individual's skills that may help them in everyday tasks like multitasking, driving, navigating path around town, keeping track of friends in crowd. Cognitive scientists from the University of Rochester report in the journal Current Biology that video games could provide a potent regime for speeding up reactions in many types of real life situations. The researchers conducted a test with dozens of people aged between 18-25 years who were not video game players. They made subjects split into two groups. One group played fast paced action game Call of Duty 2 for 50 hours, the other group played slow paced strategy game The Sims. After the test all players were asked to make quick decisions in different tasks designed by the researchers. The game players showed a 25 percent faster decision making ability and answered questions correctly as their strategy game peers. Video game players, especially action games, have more efficient collectors to audio and visual stimulus and therefore they arrive at the necessary decision much faster than non video gamers, the researchers concluded. So next time we can remember a counter for people who say gaming just makes brain dumb
